π runs on forever and never repeats itself. That is more or less how a weekend out here goes — the same land, never quite the same day twice.
The mark on our gate is π drawn as a ranch gate: two posts, one rail, and open country on the other side. It is the last thing you pass on the way in and the first thing you miss on the way out.
Water
The pond.
Eighteen feet at its deepest and stocked with catfish, with a timber pier and a boardwalk running along the bank. Seasonal creeks thread the low ground after rain, and the whole basin fills with frog song by dusk.

Timber & trail
The woods.
Loblolly pine over hardwood understory, cut through with sandy trails wide enough for a UTV and quiet enough to hear a woodpecker three ridges over. Deer, hogs, armadillo, owls and more birds than we have names for.
